To date, TRN has been able to provide a total of $3000 in funding to six therapists, all in Western North Carolina who were impacted by Hurricane Helene. Their stories continue to highlight the impact that Therapist Resource Network and your generosity have made in their lives. We are grateful to this recipient for sharing her story in her own words, and we wanted to share it with you as well.

"Like so many across WNC, my partner and I lost a lot during Hurricane Helene. We were emergency evacuated from our apartment and lost a large portion of our belongings (furniture, art, my car, kitchen supplies, etc.), not to mention the home we built together. We got some assistance from FEMA and other programs, but not enough to cover what we lost.
In addition to the physical losses we faced, I also lost a lot financially. I had recently graduated and got my licensure, and I had finally started to build my caseload the month or two before. Because of this, I did not have enough work history to qualify for unemployment assistance. After months (and months) of not being able to work, and then finally building up a caseload, it was gone overnight. In those first several days/weeks, there was no way of knowing when I might work again. We had no internet, I had no transportation, and I wasn't even sure the building I worked in was still standing (thankfully, it is and it's fine!). To say it was financially stressful is an understatement. I was able to appeal and qualify for disaster relief unemployment. Although I am grateful for the assistance, it did not come close to covering the loss of income I was experiencing, let alone the expenses we were facing to replace our belongings.
This grant through TRN truly means the world to me. This money is not only a representation of the kindness and compassion of my community, it is a small weight off my shoulders financially. Every single person who has reached out, donated to, or supported me or WNC over the past few months has been a genuine ray of joy and hope, a reminder that we are not alone. Whether this money goes towards a new car, groceries, furniture, therapy resources, or simply enjoying life and supporting local businesses again, I know it will have a positive impact on my life... even if that's just my own mental health and sanity! :)
Thank you again for supporting the livelihood and well-being of therapists trying to be good therapists amidst all the chaos. I know I'm not the only therapist facing tough times right now (in fact, I literally can't think of one who's not!), and I appreciate the work TRN is doing to continue supporting mental health clinicians... the world knows we're needed right now!!
